This is Tom Robinson and Calpurnia. They are African American and live in Maycomb during the time when the "whites" were superior to the "blacks." They are seen as "working class" in Karl Marx theory, however, because of their race and time period they would be the absolute lowest class. Whittington-Walsh, Fiona. (2017).
This is Miss. Caroline. She is a Caucasian teacher in Maycomb. Because she is a teacher and considered a professional, she would be in the petit bourgeoisie or "middle class." Whittington-Walsh, Fiona. (2017).
The African American people were not allowed to mix in with the Caucasian people during this time period. This causes a lot of tension between the two races and the African American people were treated like dirt. They weren't allowed to participate in activities and they were seen as less than human to the Caucasian people of Maycomb which is called social inequality. Social inequality is an unfair disadvantage based on charcteristics that cant be changed.Maycomb had the ideology that the Caucasian race was superior the African American race. Whittington-Walsh, Fiona. (2017).
