  • Yes it is my husband. The birds are singing their beautiful tune and the sun is shining.
  • Today is a beautiful day, isn't it my wife?
  • ( Song of the Enemy )
  • the little one - the first- born has been poisoned by the scorpion.
  • It is a beautiful and relaxing shining day for Juana and Kino. They were both enjoying there breakfast while Coyotito there precious child was sleeping soundly.
  • I'll go to inform him.
  • Suddenly at the corner of Kino´s eye he sees a scorpion sneaking up on Coyotitio´s bed. Kino's body glided quietly across the room  very smoothly. The scorpion sensed danger when Kino got within reach. It's tail rose up over its back in little jerks and the curved on the tail glistened. The scorpion fell into Coyotito's bed and the inoccent child screamed with pain.
  • Juana found the puncture with redness and started to suck vigorously. The screaming of the suffering baby made the nosy neighbors gather around their house making it a neighborhood affair. Juana and Kino had no other choice but to go to the ignorant, deceitful town doctor.

  • Kino and Juana arrive at the doctors gates. One of the servants appeared and Kino tells him what happened to Coyoyito. The servant goes in the house to inform the doctor. The doctor is in his chambers sitting up in his high bed when he is informed about the little Indian boy. The cruel doctor declined helping them only because they had dull lifeless pearls to pay for the service.
  • Kino and Juana return home. Juana Laid Coyotito on a blanket and covered him so that the hot sun would not shine on his face. Kino and Juana slid the canoe into the  beautiful water. Kino stripped of his shirt and pants and dived into the oil smooth water. Kino had heard the song of the pearl that might be while he was placing oysters in his basket. Kino opened some of the oystrs and there it was, The Pearl of the world.  
  • As soon as the word got out that Kino had found the pearl of the world the opportunist of a doctor appeared at here front door. Despite the anger and hatred the doctor has cause to enter Kino's body ha stepped aside and let him and the man enter. The doctor put a capsule on the back of the baby's tongue. Then he picked up a bottle of pulque and gave it to the baby to drink.
