  • The underground railroad is the system of routes that help slaves escape to the states that doesn't have slavery that aided by the abolitionists. This hidden routes allow slaves to escape to their freedom .
  • Slavery in America
  • States' rights created the division between the north and the south over slavery. The south is pro-slavery state, while the North is anti-slavery which created the argument whether slavery is legal are not.
  • The Dred Scott Decision
  • Harriet Tubman is an abolitionist and the conductor that actively helping hundred of slaves escape through the underground railroads. She used to be a slave and got treated poorly by her master. Then she able to escape to her freedom, but left her family behind. She then returned to the south to help her family and other slaves escape through the underground routes.
  • John Brown
  • Slavery began when African slaves were brought to America. Slavery help to boost the economic foundation for the new nation like America. Slavery began to expand mostly in the south to help work on plantation of tobacco, cotton and corn. Slaves were sold as the property of their master and got treated differently by their owner.
  • Dred Scott decision is one of the issue that supreme court need to decide whether the slave owners should expand the slave to western territories. The judge, Roger B. Taney decided that Dred is black, so he have no citizenship right to sue, and the Missouri Compromise of 1820 is unconstitutional.
  • John Brown is an abolitionist and the conductor of the underground railroad. He also organize a self protection group for freemen of color and slaves. In addition, he led slaves uprising and rebellion against slavery to guarantee their freedom.
