Storyboard Text

  • Let it be clear that both Kingdoms have right to their own empire.
  • Agreed. Unless change in the landscape of this known world changes, may this treaty do its duty to satisfy the two great crowns.
  • Who knows what will be made of my discoveries?
  • The bridge at Tordesillas links Portugal and Spain and it served as the meeting ground for the signing of the treaty. In June 1494 the monarchs met on this bridge giving way to the name "Treaty of Tordesillas".
  • While history has shown that this treaty certainly did not stand the test of time, it did have its significance. Were it not for Columbus and his excellent diplomacy skills with King John II of Portugal we may have seen great conflict between two great empires of the era.
