• Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius or 212 degrees Fahrenheit, and freezes at 0 degrees Celsius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Normal body temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. What Celsius temperature is this?
• Follow me and i will show you!
• If you look at the board you can see that you should use the equation y=mx+b.
• y=mx+b To find m in the equation, you have to do y(2)-y(1) divided by x(2)-x(1). In this situation you have to do 32-212 divided by 0-100. That will give you -180 over 100. when you divide that is gives you -1.8. m=-1.8.
• well if y=32, m=-1.8, and x=0 the equation comes out to be 32=-1.8(o)+b. Now you solve for b.
• 32=-1.8(0)+b 32=b
• So our equation is y=-1.8x+32?
• Yes that is correct!
• If that is our equation, then to find the body temperature in Celsius our equation would be 98.6=-1.8x+32 right?
• Yup that is right!!! But what is the answer?
• umm..... x=-37?
