Stay gold, Ponyboy
Greasers vs. Socs
Darry really shapes Ponyboy because Darry really pushes Pony to be the best he can so he can make a good future for himself. Pony loves Darry, but he doesn't think Darry loves him or wants him around because he yells at him so much and is very strict. But, he doesn't realize he really wants him to do well and be safe, and get a better future than he did. Ponyboy can grow from this because he has all the resources for a good life.
Pony really cares about Johnny because they are best friends. Johnny always encourages Pony to be himself/special and to "stay gold", and tells him to never change. Johnny and Pony had a very strong relationship because they were always there for each other no matter what. Even if it was killing a man or running away from home.
The conflict between the greasers and Socs impacts Ponyboy because every time the greasers want to go somewhere there's a chance that they could get jumped by the Socs for no reason. The conflict is out of Pony's control, and he doesn't like fighting with them because they're only fighting because of where they live and how they dress.
