  • Hamartia: the flaw that causes the downfall John is a well-respected landowner, but feels guilty for having a affair with Abigail.
  • I really dislike Rev. Paris, I think he is a hypocrite, but i'm also a hypocrite for cheating on my wife with Abigail.
  • John Proctor as a tragic hero By: Hector Figueroa
  • If I go to court and testify that Abigail is lying I could save the people being accuses, but I can't I don't have the right or the structure to stand against someone else.
  • Hubris: extreme pride John Knows that the girls are not telling the truth, but his guilt and sense of hypocrisy keel him from going to court.
  • Anagnorisis: When the hero makes a critical discovery. John realize how serious that accusations are and also finds out that Abigail wants Elizabeth dead.
  • Now my wife is being accused of witchcraft, this accusations are getting out of control.
  • I want Elizabeth dead so I can take her place John.
  • Peripeteia: Reversal of fortune. John unable to take Abigail's hypocrisy and desperate to save his friends, he reveals that he had an affair with Abigail.

  • My husband will never cheat on me, he is a honest man.
  • Nemesis: fate that cannot be reverse. John considers confessing in order to save his friends, but doesn't want to because he will be selling his friends and giving up his name.
  • I will confess of witchcraft, in order to save my wife and friends, I will give my word, but not my name.
  • Catharsis: Tone ( pity or fear) that audience is left with after the hero's fall.
