I'm not gonna make it!
Theme: The theme of this story is to not be foolish and listen to the wiser. Textual Evidence: "But all this—this mysterious, far-reaching hairline trail, the absence of sun from the sky, the tremendous cold, and the strangeness and weirdness of it all—made no impression on the man."
Tone: The tone of the story is pretty much the man thinking he is right and the old man was wrong. He thought he could surely make it. Textual Evidence: "Those old-timers were rather womanish, some of them, he thought. All a man had to do was to keep his head, and he was all right. Any man who was a man could travel alone"
Mood: The mood of this story starts out very depressing and by the end it becomes very sad because he ends up dying. Textual Evidence: #1 "Day had broken cold and gray, exceedingly cold and gray..." #2 "Then the man drowsed off into what seemed to him the most comfortable and satisfying sleep he had ever known."
