Storyboard Text

  • Expostition
  • Conflict
  • Rising Action
  • Coyotito was stung by a scorpion. Juana and Kino contemplated whether or not they should take Kino to the hospital, because they knew that they didnt have any money to pay for the help that Kino needed.
  • Climax
  • Now at the doctor, Kino hoped that some scraps of ugly and mangled pearls would bed enough to get Coyotito help. The doctor and his assistant, both racist towards the Native American family, refused to help the child without being paid with money.
  • Falling Action
  • Since the doctors visit was unsuccessful, the family canoed back to the beach, where Juana laid the baby down to rest. His swelling was worsening, so Juana prayed that they would be able to find a pearl to give to the doctor to save Coyotito. Kino continued to search the water, picking and finding the biggest shells to pry open in search for a pearl.
  • Resolution
  • A miracle occurred, Kino found a pearl. This must be kept a secret, considering the other poor villagers wanted to find a pearl just as badly. Now that they had the pearl, they canoed back to the doctors office to finally get Coyotito back to a healthy state.
  • Finally back at the doctors, Kino showed the doctor the pearl, hoping he will help Coyotito in exchange for it. The doctor agrees, and takes the baby in for an examination. He tells the family that he will do everything he possibly can to help the dying child.
  • Seeing all of the evil things that the pearl has brought, such as the other neighbors jealousy and hatred towards the family, Juana had enough. She wants to destroy the pearl completely.
