Tracks used to be made out of cinder, they are now made of all weather synthetic surfaces
Running on a cinder track takes more energy from your legs. Scientists disocverd it is 1.5% slower than tracks now days.
People also discovered that certain heights help in certain sports. The average sized body was no longer prized.
The human body can do a lot more than we think we can do, our brain acts as a limiter thinking that our body is in danger.
Athletes are now training harder and smarter than they ever were before. The first man to run under 4 minutes in the mile, would ran for a half hour at a time to take a break from med school.
