Dorothea Dix travels to Boston and in 1819 founds the DIx Mansion, a school for girls.
Dorothea began to teach Sunday school at the East Cambridge Jail.
Dorothea witnessed how awfully the mentally ill were treated and knew she had to do something about it.
She went to court and fought for the jail provide heat for the prisoners and other improvements.
Dorothea traveled around the state of Mass. and wrote a document to ultimately increase the budget of the state mental hospital once presented to the legislature.
Her mission not being finished, she toured the country documenting the conditions and treatment of patients, continuing establish humane asylums for the mentally ill.
