Storyboard Text

  • So Mom, what happens to you if you have this?
  • Well, many things happen. Let's go inside and I'll tell you more.
  • Okay Mom, tell me what happens to you if you have Huntington's Disease.
  • You can lose your memory, be moody, feel sad, and have no control over your own movements.
  • Wait, is this what grandma has? Is this why she moves around a lot and has trouble speaking?
  • Yes Peter, I received this disease from her, and you may have received it from me since your father doesn't have a history of it in his family.
  • What causes this disease to happen?
  • There is a problem with the HTT gene which causes a protein known as Huntingtin from being made.
  • Okay, but what makes this protein so important?
  • Scientists only know that this protein is important in the nerve cells that make up the brain. Without it, our nerve cells break down.
  • Will you be okay Mom?
  • Well Peter, there is currently no cure, but Scientists are working on finding one. In the mean time, medicine and physical therapy will help manage my problems as a result of Huntington's.
