Storyboard Text

  • As Jonas's big day neared he struggled to find how he was feeling.
  • It was almost December, and Jonas was beginning to be frightened. No. Wrong word, Jonas thought (Lowry 1)
  • Jonas's shared his feelings at the normal time, finally finding the right word.
  • I'm feeling apprehensive (Lowry 12).
  • He confessed, glad that the appropriate descriptive word had finally come to him (Lowry 12).
  • At Jonas's big day he was confused when the Chief elder skipped his number and said that he had been selected.
  • Jonas has been selected to be our new Receiver of Memory (Lowry 76).
  • What?!
  • As Jonas continued his training, as Receiver of memory, he was filled with pain and terror from the horrible memories he was forced to bear.
  • Why do you and I have to hold these memories? (Lowry 139).
  • I love you, Jonas (Lowry 202).
  • The Giver wished he could go with Jonas and escape the community, but someone would have to help the community through the terrifying memories Jonas would release to the community.
  • Jonas left a week before he and the Giver had planned so he could save Gabriel from being released. He was taking a chance because the Giver had not given Jonas the memories of courage that Jonas needed for the long journey ahead.
  • ... They would be aware of his escape. So he rode hard and, steadily, willing himself  not to tire as the minutes and miles passed (Lowry 208).
