  • THEN, WE WILL UNIFY CHINA!
  • THEN, WE WILL KILL ALL THE COMMUNISTS!
  • MAY FOURTH MOVEMENT, 1919
  • WE CAN DEFEAT THE WARLORDS TOGETHER
  • HOPE CHUN
  • NATIONALIST VERSUS COMMUNIST, 1927
  • WE WON TOGETHER!
  • Sun Yat- Sen wants to bring China together into a republic. When the emperor dies, the country is divided into two: 1) Warlords in the North (Beijing) and 2) warlords in the South ruled by Sun Yat- Sen.
  • LONG MARCH, 1934
  • YEAH!
  • YEAH!
  • Two different parties, the Nationalists and the Communists are working together... for now. Students lead a revolt against Northern warlords.
  • JAPANESE INVASION, 1937
  • After rescuing China from the rule of the warlords, the Nationalists and Communists actually turn on each other. Chiang Kai- Shek initiates a purge, killing thousands of communists.
  • GRRR..
  • Mao Zedong leads those who follow him on a long march to restore communism outside of nationalist control after the nationalists defeated the communists in battle. Ninety percent of the marchers died.
  • FOR A COMMUNIST SOCIETY!
  • The Japanese invasion actually temporarily stopped the Chinese civil war. Both sides ended up joining forces, agreeing that it was more important to fight off the Japanese rather than each other.
