You may wonder, what causes dwarfism? Well, some types of dwarfism are hereditary (meaning the disease is passed down from ancestors) but, all types of dwarfism involve either hormonal disturbances, bone or deficiency diseases and/or organ dysfunction.
When I was younger, I was diagnosed with dwarfism because my arms and legs were shorter than normal, my teeth were crowded in my jaws and I had problems with joints.
When dwarfism is suspected in a developing child, doctors must find the cause. Scientists know which gene causes some forms of dwarfism so they use genetic tests to rule out which type of dwarfism a patient has. One way dwarfism is teated is with growth hormones.
