Daedalus made a plan to escape from the island using wax wings.
He warned his son Icarus not to fly to high because the sun would melt thawed wings. Icarus was so excited that he didn't listen.
The sun melted the wax and Icarus fell to the sea and drowned. Daedalus had to continue on alone.
The Greeks and other ancient cultures had myths to explain how and why things happened. The myths helped them understand why there were storms and destruction or other such phenomenons. Myths helped them understand where their ancestors went after they died. Myths help people wondered what they would do in the afterlife. Myths were used to give advice for a happy life. Myths were used to teach region too.
