Storyboard Text

  • I wonder what life outside of this camp is like?
  • This is Subhi he is 9 years old and lives in a detention centre and he has never seen the outside world before. “What is life like outside this fence?”
  • That's Strange. I have never seen a person this close to the fence before.
  • One day Subhi went to sit at the fence to get away from the camp. The glistening yellow sun was shining on him like a big spotlight. As he was sitting there, he could see a silhouette of a person. “That’s very strange,” he thought to himself.
  • It is a girl, a girl from the out side world!
  • This girl was not like any girl that Subhi had ever seen. She had a green shirt with a purple dress over the top that looked like it hadn’t been washed for weeks. Her blonde scruffy hair was tied up into two messy pony tails.
  • As the silhouette came closer, Subhi realised that it was a young girl about his age. He couldn’t believe that someone was standing in front of him. “It is a girl!”
  • When the girl kneels down in the dirt, Subhi believes that she is his guardian angel who is here to help him.
  • But then as words started coming out of the girl’s mouth, Subhi realised that she wasn’t his guardian angel after all.
  • The girl asks Subhi what his name is and he responds.
  • My name is Subhi.
  • Whats your name?
  • Is that your book?
  • Subhi sees that the girl is holding an old worn out book.
  • The girl replied confidently.
  • Of course it is! Why can you read?
  • I can read, I read books all the time in here.
  • "Yes I can read" replied Subhi. The girl was so excited because she has finally found someone who can tell her the real story, instead of the one that she was imagining.
  • Will she return?, I hope so she seemed excited because she found someone who could read.
  • As the day finally came to an end and the moon casts light down over the camp, the stars were shimmering in the night sky like a big disco ball.
  • Just as Subhi was about to ask what the girl’s name was, she was walking away into the darkness. "Will she return? I hope so, she seemed excited because she found someone who could read." Subhi closed his eyes and wondered if he will ever see the girl again or if the whole encounter was in his imagination.
