The Tower of Babel story in Genesis has fascinated me since a young age. Allowing my mind to imagine a world of one language disrupted and confused into hundreds, thousands of other languages. Why?
As a seminary student, you learn the complex nature of interpretation, of theology, of narrative imagination. It is no different with this story. But, as one who reads these stories with a critical lens, the thing that jumps out at me is not so much the reason but the result. A world created with diversity, a stance against isolationism, against empire, and God-like aspirations.
