Storyboard Text

  • We have this Declaration of Independence here, but we need a document that gives us a idea of how we want to run this new nation.
  • Yes i agree, the Articles of Confederation did nothing but establish a weak government. The central government needs complete sovereignty.
  • The Constitutional Convention has gathered today to discuss the Constitution.
  • Actually,i think we should discuss the issues we have with representation, i think we should use the Virginia plan, the idea is that states go off population,
  • Excellent, I have an idea on how to address the rights of individuals and the government, we can list amendments explaining the rights they are both given. We can call it the Bill of Rights.
  • Thats unfair, i think we should use the New Jersey plan, the idea that all states had equal representation, so the smaller states will have just as much say.
  • Calm down gentlemen! We will go by the Great Compromise, this will solve our representation issue and allow us to ratify the constitution.
  • I think we need to go with the Three-Fifth Compromise that lets the south count the slaves as part of the population, but we should not be taxed as they are really property.
  • We need to make sure that we have a clear separation of powers between the branches of government. This will make sure there is a way to have a check and balance system.
  • The three branches of the government should include the legislative branch that writes and votes on the law, a judicial branch that creates the laws, and an executive branches that carries out the laws.
  • Speaking for all the anti-federalists, we appose ratification of this constitution. We prefer the government not to have so many powers and to have a Bill of Rights.
  • Speaking for the Federalists, we think a strong government is best and we support the ratification of the constitution.
  • On this date, June 21st, 1788, New Hampshire here by ratifies the constitution, being the last of the 13th states.
