  • Climax
  • The Narrator's little brother, Doodle was born a call baby. The doctors say that he will not live long. Doodle was born with many disabilities and health conditions.
  • Falling Action
  • The Narrator's pride teaches Doodle to walk. Once Doodle was able to walk he believes he can teach Doodle other things. One summer day the family finds a scarlet ibis that had died. Doodle finds a connection with the ibis.
  • Resolution
  • The last day of training,Doodle is to weak to continue training. The Narrator is upset and starts heading home. A thunderstorm starts to roll in.
  • The Narrator starts to run home and leaves doodle behind, who cannot keep up and calls out "brother don"t leave me"
  • The narrator starts to feel guilty and turns back to doodle to find him dead under a tree in a similar position as the ibis. The narrator says how his selfish pride killed Doodle. And the Narrator starts to shield his scarlet ibis from the heavy rain.
