Storyboard Text

  • Tone
  • Mood
  • Brother's Character Trait
  • Somber This scene was somber because Brother finds Doodle died and blames himself. The evidence that proves this is "Finally I went back and found him huddle beneath a red nightshade bush beside the road." "I lay there crying, sheltering my scarlet ibis from the hersey of rain."
  • Doodle's Character Trait
  • Joyous This scene was joyous because this is when Doodle and Brother are starting to connect, and they find their place to hang out. The evidence that proves this "For heaven sake what the matter?" " It's so pretty, pretty, pretty." "After day Doodle and I often went down into Old Woman Swamp."
  • Theme
  • Brother is a dynamic character because in the beginning of the story he wants to kill his brother and in the end he loves him but is embarrassed of him.
  • Figurative Language
  • Doodle is a static character because even though he changes physically he does not change emotionally. He stays the same loving and nice character throughout the story.
  • The theme of the story is that even though you may love someone your pride can ruin it all.
  • Simile: " Keeping a nice secret is very hard to do, liking holding your breath." The author used this simile because he wants to show how hard it was to keep the secret that Doodle could walk. Simile: " our laughter pealing through the swamp like a ringing bell." The author used this because he wanted to show how Doodle's and Brother's laughter was so loud and that it echoed.
