John, Jesus' cousin, preached and baptised many people. One day, Jesus went to the Jordan River to be baptised. John didn't know what to say.
John questioned his authority to baptise Jesus. Jesus responded to John by saying that He must be baptised in order to set an example for others.
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17
So John took Jesus into the Jordan River and baptised Him.
When Jesus was baptised, the sky opened up and the Holy Spirit came down in the form of a beautiful white dove.
Then a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17
The baptism gave Jesus strength which enabled him to start his mission.
