Storyboard Text

  • Chapter lX
  • The Illness
  • The First Storms
  • As the voyage to a new land continued, a myriad of perilous dangers continued to plague the Mayflower and her faithful crew.
  • The Apocalypse
  • The faithful day of September 6 brought strong winds, along with equally strong illness. So powerful were these accursed diseases that even the strongest men fell prey to it.
  • Heaven
  • The days were plagued with storms, so many that one could assume that the sky just wanted to show its ostentatious power. The officers of the ship were disheartened by the danger, but persevered and used what little supplies were left to create the haphazard mess that was our ship.
  • And Hell
  • More and more storms approached, showing the might of the skies. We were forced to hull, bending to the will of these storms. One man, John Howland, fell overboard, and with a tremendous effort against an arduous force, we saved his life. Nevertheless, we did lose one man, William Button, but he was expendable on our ship.
  • We eventually landed at Cape Cod, but our true goal was to emigrate from Cape Cod to Hudson's River. Unfortunately, the precarious nature of the shoreline impeded our progress and forced our stay at Cape Cod. Despite this setback, many fell upon their knees and praised God for land.
  • Even though we finished our naval journey, the harshness of the cruel land came down upon us like the storms of the sea. No inns, no houses, no comforts of Europe, we were away from the pleasures of our homes and ready to establish a new home despite the harsh winter we arrived in.
