Hey, Dad, where did you work before this new job?
NO WAY DAD!
Well, son, I moved from Mexico illegally to the United States of America when I was 16 years old. I didn't even speak English.
Yes, son. The only jobs available for people like me were in agriculture.
School wasn't an option for me. As soon as I moved, I began to travel all over the U.S in search for these jobs in the fields picking whatever fruit or vegetable was in season.
I had to send most of my money back home to help your grandmother son. It was tough, we would work all day through extreme weather for very low wages.
Yes! Then I met your mother Jacob. She helped me become a resident which allowed me to become a part of society. After learning english overtime, many doors began to open for me here.
Then you met me dear!
I forgot to mention, most of my coworkers were undocumented folks just like me. Most of them did not know a bit of English so it was easy for our bosses to take advantage of us. With our need of money, the bosses sometimes lowered our wages and increased our hours we had to work because we were vulnerable.
