  • Brother's Character Traits
  • Hopeful: This scene is hopeful because this scene shows how much Doodle was trying and pushing himself, and how hope was elevated even more.
  • Doodle's Character Traits
  • Hateful: This scene made me feel hateful because it shows how proud and kinda selfish Brother is.
  • Theme
  • Brother is a sort-of dynamic character because at first he wanted to murder his brother the he had hope in him then he left him to die, but he also did everything to make himself appear good.
  • Figurative Lanuage
  • Doodle is a static character, because throughout the whole story, he kept his hope up and wanted to satisfy his brother.
  • Theme: Anger can often lead to actions we will regret and anger for being angry.
  • Simile: "He seemed all head, with a tiny body which was red and shriveled like an old man." The author used this simile to better use imagery to show how odd Doodle looked. Personification: "It was in the clove of seasons, summer was dead but autumn had not yet been born, that the ibis lit in the bleeding tree." This is personification, for summer cannot be dead nor can autumn be dead. The author uses this personification to show it was just close to the end of summer and close to the beginning of Autumn.
