  • "... only one man walked with Kino, and that was his brother, Juan Tomas."
  • 1: Don't get cheated here, Kino. You've heard the myths.
  • 2: It won't. I know of the myth, and I will help my family.
  • 2: "It is worth fifty thousand, you know it. You just want to cheat me."
  • 3: I'm off to the capital.
  • 1: This pearl is too large and clumsy. I can give you a thousand pesos.
  • Will Kino get the money he deserves? To be continued...
  • "His eyes were entranced, and he could sense the wary, watchful evil outside the brush house...
  • 1: I'm going to the capital, with or without you.

  • "...the little rush, the grunting struggle, the blow..."

  • What will become of the family? To be continued...
  • 2: "Hush. I am a man. Hush. Let us sleep a little."
  • 1: "A man can be killed. Let us throw the pearl back into the sea."
