Storyboard Text

  • In just the first hour of the free agency, NFL teams aggressively pursued players that would fill the positions they desperately needed. Players such as Alshon Jefferey, A.J. Bouye, and Stephon Gilmore had no problems finding new homes with big contracts.
  • It was on March 9th at 1:00 pm that the 2017 NFL free agency frenzy began.
  • Starting with maybe the most surprising deal, the Chicago Bears signed Tampa Bay backup QB Mike Glennon to a 3-year 43.5 million dollar contract.
  • This year’s free agency class had more stars than there have been in a long time. We’re gonna give a quick run-down of some of the biggest signings, surprises, and the winners and losers of free agency day 1.
  • The Bears are definitely one of the losers in the first day of the free agency. Along with signing a now very overpaid Glennon, the Bears lost maybe their best offensive talent since Walter Payton. Wide Receiver Alshon Jefferey signed a 1-year 14 million dollar deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
  • This took me by shock, Glennon, while showing some promise in preseason, definitely doesn’t deserve a contract of this magnitude. He is now among the top 10 paid QB’s and hasn’t started a game since 2014.
  • That’s it for our day one recap. From Hogan sports, have a good day and be sure to check in for day 2.
  • In the 2016 season, the Eagles had the least productive receiving core in the NFL, now signing superstar Jefferey, along with speedster Torrey Smith from San Francisco, the Eagles are clear winners from free agency day 1.
