Us city folk couldn't produce our own food if we couldn't buy it, People were going hungry! Soup kitchens were sometimes available in larger cities for the poor. Our cities had became dirty and destroyed.
Many of our fellow farm families grow their own food. A lot of people in the 1930's like to call it the "Dirty 30's" ( summer heat, winter cold, dust, and insects),farmers crops would get destroyed and farmers wouldn't be able to afford living on the farm and would move to city life.
Family life were rough in the middle of the 1930's. Women and children were working to help out, 2 or 3 families would cramp in an apartment to be able to survive, and marriages were crashing. Men would become unemployed and take on drinking, some men would be so stressed out that they would abandon their families!
Unemployment was very bad during the great depression, (2,200 workers lost their jobs between 1927-1934) it effected both rural and city areas. Farmers who'd lost their home and land made up a large portion the idle workforce. Hoovervilles sprung up all over America.
