In 1812 the war with Great Britain had been going on for a year and a half and something had to be done.
We only had a little mount of boats so we decided to sink them so that the Britain can not get any closer.
Francis Scott Key was sent to a British ship to negotiate to release American prisoners.
The British did not let Key go because he knew to mush of there plans
Key watched the battle and was scared for a moment then was pleased to see that the American flag was still standing there the next morning.
After the battle Francis Scott Key was so inspired that the flag was still there he decided to write a poem
