Bruno and his family have moved house out into to the countryside. Neither of the children are happy and are missing their friends since they had moved to "Out-With."
From Bruno's bedroom window he thinks he can see a farm, which is in fact a concentration camp for the Jews. This was the main reason they moved as his father had important job to do with the camp.
After many days of being trapped inside Bruno decided to go and explore what he thought was a farm. Bruno loved to explore, he found his way through the woodland and followed a large metal fence until he came to a young boy on the other side, his name was Shmuel.
Bruno returned home from meeting Shmuel one evening and his mother found fleas amongst his hair. Of course his mother didn't realise Bruno had been meeting a new friend and his mother ordered for his hair to be shaved off at once. When Bruno next went to visit Shmuel they both agreed that Bruno's new haircut made him look similar to Shmuel and all the other Jews on the camp.
Bruno talks with Shmuel and discovers that they both share the same Birthday. Bruno and his new found friend plan to sneak Bruno into the camp. Shmuel was to bring a pair of striped clothes to the fence where Bruno would change and then clamber under the metal fence into the camp. When they were in the camp safely the two boys would try to find Shmuel's Father.
A few days later the two boys put their plan to work and both Bruno and Shmuel were in the camp. Bruno fitted right In, and no-one knew the difference.
