  • Typically, a tradition is passed down generations. As a rule, the box is a symbol of history for the villagers. Therefore “no one liked to upset even as much tradition” that the black box symbolized
  • My Symbol
  • Typically in literature the lottery represents the chance to win or the chance to be chosen. As a rule, the lottery depicts the randomness and chance that occur in life.
  • Typically being a good sport means playing fair and treating everyone with kindness. Mrs. Delacroix contradicts her words by choosing the largest stone despite preaching kindness. Her actions relate to the larger idea of the hypocracy sometimes shown in Christianism.
