  • First Act Congress passed was in 1875. Known as the Page Act, it restricted the immigration of forced laborers coming from Asia.
  • Immigration didn't become a serious issue in federal and national legislature until the past 30yrs.
  • Is Immigration an issue? -some people claim it takes away jobs and benefits from citizens. -Others say that it helps boost our economy, and is needed for economic stability.
  • What is wrong with the U.S. Immigration Policy? -Fails to meet needs from state to state. -The citizenship process is too long and expensive.
  • So how do we fix our issues regarding immigration?
  • Don't build a wall, instead use money to fund programs needed to help integrate immigrants into their communities.
  • Establish a simple, merit-based immigration system.
  • Make citizenship process faster and cheaper.
