  • Long Term Causes of French Revolution
  • Estates General
  • Tennis Court Oath
  • Inequalities among classes for example the 1st estate and 2nd estates paid almost no taxes and the 3rd estate paid taxes on everything. Also the dismissal of Jaucques Necker because the nobility and clergy didn't want to pay taxes causing economic reform to fail; therefore causing economic troubles to remain.
  • Storming of the Bastille
  • The Estates-General was the legislative body consisting of representatives of the three estates, before making any changes.  In 1788 France was on the verge of bankruptcy so king Louis XVI summoned the Estates-General to meet at Versailles the following year. So he had the estates prepare cahiers for the Estate-General.
  • Revolution Begins
  • Delegates of the 3rd  Estate declare themselves to be the National Assembly, representing the people of France. the take the tennis court oath vowing to create a constitution and to never separate and meet whatever the circumstances. this is significant because it meant the were defying the king.
  • 
  • On July 14, 1789 There were rumors that the king wanted to occupy the streets of Paris with Royal Troops. So more than 800 Parisians assembled outside the Bastille and stormed it because it had weapons so the defeated the troops in the Bastille.
  • The fall of the Bastille caused an uproar in France. also the fact that peasants were spending 80% of their income on bread so it cause the peasants to revolt and ultimately start an revolution.
