Hopes and Dreams Alexie reveals Hopes and Dreams are only acquired by breaking out of the cycle of poverty, and taking risks to achieve them.
Juniors parents if they had followed their dreams
Rez <- Hope ->
On page 11 when Junior was talking about how his parents never took the chance to follow their dreams. Now they struggle to bring food home and are living in misery, if they would have followed their dreams it would have been completely different. This relates to the theme because it's an example of someone having a big dream but not taking the risk to achieve it.
On page 43 when Mr P. tells Junior that the farther he gets away from this reservation the more hope he will find. This relates to the theme because Junior breaks out of the cycle of poverty on the Rez and leaves despite that being his home and everything he's ever known.
On page 100 when Junior's sister leaves the Rez and starts a new live in Montana. She broke out of the Rez and took a risk to follow her dreams and desires. She's always writing Junior about how happy she is.
