Storyboard Text

  • Yochelson and Samenow studied criminal thought patterns over 14 years and many books to find the 'make up' of their personality, to find techniques to alter these personalities thus prevent crime, encourage legal responsibility and prevent criminal behaviour.
  • How does one escape one's cell?
  • legal things
  • The study was done using 255 different males and females of different background, some more privileged than others, from the city, suberbs, etc. for variety. They used interviews over the 14 years to communicate with them
  • The participants were studied from the hospital cells in which they were diagnosed to be crazy in some cases also, as their insanity was considered to a more secure treatment facility indefinably. Also, there was no non-criminal control group to look for patterns against.
  • Those in the study were according to Yochelson and Samenow restless and irritable, whilst at school, defiant, sets themselves apart, want excitement at all costs, perpetually angry, and lacks empathy. They also are poor at responsible decision making and are only interested in themselves.
  • What do you mean fam?!
  • Nah man, I want to do this!! Let's get all the drugs!
  • What you on about blud?!
  • Of the original 255, most dropped out and left 30 who completed it although only 9 of the 30 felt like they'd been changed by this experience. The 'Freudian' therapy showed that by finding the root of their problems for example, their lack of family. By facing their problem, their criminal activities like drug and alcohol abuse were expected to stop.
  • Questionaire questions
  • However they both knew the patients lied to give answers to help them out of prison, and changed emphasis of the study to examining criminals thought process. They concluded that there were 52 possible patterns in a criminals personality, considered to be errors in thinking. Due to the lack of a non-criminal control group, there no way to know how many and which of these normal people exhibit.
  • Which of the 52 ways am I thinking hmm doc??
