  • The narrator arrives at the Usher house; huge, old, and creepy; on a cloudy night. He came to comfort his friend Roderick in a hard time.
  • He helped his friend through distractions like painting and music, but one day the narrator got a glimpse of Roderick's sick sister, Madeline.
  • rising action
  • Roderick told his friend that his sister had died, so they locked her in her coffin in the dunjeons in the depths of the house. 
  • rising action
  • A huge storm came to the house and scared the narrator and Roderick. The narrator started reading a book nearby, and they started hearing strange sounds around the house. Suddenly Madeline burst in the room.
  • climax
  • Roderick died of fear of Madeline, and Madeline died, falling on him.

  • The narrator ran away from the bodies and the house. The house fell and was no longer standing tall.
