  • I am old, too,/ But I cannot remember that he was ever false...Go quickly: free Antigone from her vault/ And build a tomb for the body of Polyneices" (Sophocles Scene V. 860-9).
  • "[I] Will do it: I will not fight with destiny" (Sophocles Scene V. 873).

  • "Haimon is dead; and the land that killed him/ Is his own hand... driven mad by the murder his father had done" 918-21
  • Exodos
  • After over hearing the messenger tell Choragos of her son's death, Etocles returns to the castle and stabs herself. As she kills herself she curses Creon, just as Teiresias' prophesy foretold.
  • "The Queen is dead...She stood before the altar, and her heart/ Welcome the knife her own hand guided. And a great cry burst from her lips" (Sophocles Exodos. 1002-14).

  • Creon knows that he must fix what he has done in order to prevent Teiresias' prophesy.
  • "Let death come quickly, and be kind to me/ I would not ever see the sun again" (Sophocles Exodos. 1028-9).

  • A messenger comes with bad news. Antigone hung herself in the vault, and after hearing about her death, Haimon could not take the pain and killed himself.
  • "There is no happiness where there is no wisdom/ No wisdom but in submission to the gods/ Big words are always punished/ And proud men in old age learn to be wise" (Sophocles Exodos. 1039-43).
  • The End
  • When Creon realizes that all of his family members are dead he wishes that he too were dead. He finally admits that his actions were folly and wrong.
