Storyboard Text

  • White Only Barber Shop
  • Ma'am, I need you to move to colored section of the bus in the back.
  • Then you give me no choice but to call the authorities
  • Fine by me.
  • I will not move, I have the right to sit here because I am as good as any other white person here on this bus.
  • Hey miss, need a ride?
  • No thanks, these feet may be tired but it's worth it for our equality.
  • In the 1900's, many places such as this were segregated or separated by race. Many people were offended by this because they thought that everyone should be equal no matter what race. These people that were offended reacted to this by protesting and boycotting. This was known as the Civil Rights Movement.
  • Get him!
  • Why? Why do you do this?
  • Gladly!
  • Rosa Parks was an African American women who stood up for her rights when she was told to move because of her race.
  • EQUAL RIGHTS!!!
  • EQUAL RIGHTS!!!
  • Rosa Parks actions helped the bus boycott take place where African American rights supporters stopped taking the buses to decrease the amount of money the buses were making.
  • "I have a dream..."
  • These protests and boycotts didn't always go so smoothly. There were a group of white people that were known as the Ku Klux Klan. These people went out threatening the lives of African Americans and their supporters who believed in equal rights.
  • 1963 is when the largest march for African American rights took place. They were all heading straight for the Washington Monument.
  • That same day, Martin Luther King Jr started the beginning of the end of segregation with his famous "I have a dream" speech.
