  • HELP! Our ship is sinking!!

  • Yes, sir!
  • The 2nd Crusade was launched in 1147 due to the Europeans losing large areas of land. This Crusade was a huge failure however, due to their ships sinking before even reaching the Holy Land and the survivors were quickly defeated in battle.
  • This is called medicine!
  • Oh my!

  • The 3rd Crusade was launched by the rulers of England, France, and the Holy Roman Empire. Yet, very quickly the three kings began to argue amongst themselves with the kings of France and the Holy Roman Empire coming home. Richard l (the king of England) captured a few cities but couldn't capture Jerusalem.

  • The 4th Crusade began once a group of knights arrived in the city of Venice, Italy. The leader made an agreement with the Doge (the leader of Venice) to pay them for ships to send them to the Holy Land. Since not enough knights showed up to pay the bill, the Doge made a proposal for them to attack Zara. In 1204, the members of the Crusade attacked and sacked the city of Constantinople, too.

  • Crusaders learned about new products from the East such as exotic fruits, silks, cottons, and spices. Europeans also gained knowledge about mathematics, architecture, gunpowder, medicine and astronomy from Muslims.
  • Kings gained power because they were able to take over the lands of lords and knights who died on the Crusade.
  • Christians, Jews, and Muslims started to have relations because of the Crusades.
