  • Abigail, I have fought here three long years to bend these stiff-necked people to me, and just now when some good respect is rising for me in the parish you compromise my very character.
  • Abby
  • I want to open myself! I want the light of God, I want the sweet love of Jesus! I danced for the Devil; I saw him; I wrote in his book; I go back to Jesus; I kiss His hand. I saw Sarah Good with the Devil! I saw Goody Osburn with the Devil! I saw Bridget Bishop with the devil.
  • Putman
  • She cannot hear the Lord's name, Mr. Hale; that's a sure sign on witchcraft.
  • Traits: Minister, Paranoid, Insecure He is held in high regard in the community with the exception of some, including John, who is able to see his true self. He constantly looks to benefit how others see him in the community. He is a key accuser.
  • Rebecca
  • Why it is a lie, it is a lie; how may I damn myself? I cannot, I cannot.
  • Traits: Evil, Exaggerator Abigail is viewed as an innocent young girl who is going through tough times. Her accusations are all believed, although she is occasionally accused by Procter.
  • John
  • Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth them to hang! How many I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave my name.
  • Traits: Greedy, Selfish, Putman is looking for revenge on those who have wronged him. He uses his daughter to accuse people.
  • Elizabeth
  • Traits: Kind, Loyal, Strong, Realist The community sees her as a kind women and everyone is surprised when she is convicted of witchcraft.
  • Traits: Passionate, Integrity John is viewed as a good man. He believes his name has a lot of meaning and worries what others will think of him. He had an affair with Abigail Williams and doubts incredibly. John is accused of witchcraft
  • Traits: Honest, Loving, Forgiving, Positive Elizabeth is viewed as a very holy lady who never lies. She becomes pregnant after being accused of witchcraft, therefore her life is spared for another year.
  • I do not judge you. The magistrate sits in your heart that judges you. I never thought you but a good man, John- only somewhat bewildered.
