  • Odysseus has been staying with Calypso who is wealthy, so he is well taken care of, but he desperately wants to get home to his wife. He needs to go soon.
  • Temptation
  • Calypso wants Odysseus to stay with her and tries to "bribe" him and persuade him of all the great things that he could have, but Odysseus is determined to get home to his wife. He doesn't want to stay with Calypso.
  • Temptation
  • Now Odysseus convinced Calypso that he had to continue his journey so that his he could get home, but he told her that he would come visit her again soon.
  • Tempatation
  • Odysseus told his men that they were not to touch the cattle on the island and that if they did they would all suffer the consequences. They were not to touch the cattle because they belonged to the sun god, Helios.
  • Do not touch the cattle or we will all suffer the consequences!
  • Although Odysseus did not know it, while he was sleeping, his men killed the cattle for food and they said it would be known as a "sacrifice" for Helios, the sun god who owned the cattle.
  • Zeus was then sent to punish Odysseus and his men, with death. All of Odysseus' men drowned, and Odysseus nearly drowned but he made it out alive. He was the only survivor.
