Storyboard Text

  • A mother gets a call from school informing her that her son started a fight school, and hit another kid. This scene demonstrates the authoritarian parenting style.
  • This is unacceptable! You will be grounded for 2 months because of this bad behaviour! Forget about dinner, you'll be going to your room!
  • Yelling at the child for what they have done might make them not ever do it again, but there was no reason or explaining why they have chosen them to punish them this way. They gave the child no explanation, and didn't reason with them.
  • In this case a mother gets the same phonemail from the school that her son had started a fight, and he hit another kid. She sits him down and talks to him about it, and demonstrates a democratic parenting style.
  • Tomorrow at school I want you to apologize to the boy you hit. I'm disappointed in your choices that you made, and I hope next time instead of fighting you can use your words to solve a problem.
  • This type of parenting gives an option for discussion between the parent and child. Apologizing to the other kid shows the child that hitting isn't okay, and that he should use another way to problem solve.
