Do words affect recall of a picture?
Our experiment was based on JJ Gibson who critisised Gestalt theory. Do perceptual sets afeect memory?
We will take 95 participants (35 men, 60 female) to conduct a lab experiment.
There will be three goups. Each group will see images and must reproduce them after
Group 1 will have a list of words
Group 2 will be given a different list of words
Group 3 will not be given any words
We recorded the accuracy of reproductions and found: group 1 and 2's reproduction were similar to the words and group 3 were quit similar to the stimulus image
In conclusion memory is reconstructed and words do alter the way a picture is reconstructed. This is because groups 1 and 2's images ressembled the word given
