Bias by ommision is when the author leaves out one part of the story , like if a dog attacked someone and they say the dog attacked them but they leave out that the person was abusing the dog . Bias by selection of sources is kind of similar , it's when the author leaves out sources that support the opposing point of view . Bias by labeling is when a news outlet uses critical labels to identify politicians or groups, or fails to label blased point of views . Finally , bias by spin is when they show body language and interpratation of the events .
In my opinion bias is real . Most new use bias by ommision and leave out the other half of the story to make it seem like the other point of view is wrong . The reason they do this is because they want everyone to be on one side of the point of view . Bias helps make it easy to make someone believe your side of the story . They will most likely believe you because ,you don't state the other person's point off view . They may even take out some important details just to make you think that the other person is bad/wrong.
Most news want you too believe what they believe so they point out what the other point of view did wrong and not right . Then they point out whats right bout what they believe . Then they also give you some benefits about their opinion . Some more ways they can do this is by , getting people to be on their side . They also sometimes leave out important details . One news story about Eric Garner the news left out that he had broken up a fight earlier that day to help stop violence . The news was obviously on the policemens side ,because they left out some of the good thing he did . By leaving out good information and only pointing out the bad things Eric Garner did will make it seem like he was a bad person and that what the police did was right .
I kind of think of bias as an opinion . If you use your opinion and back i up with some facts then the reader will be most likely to believe you . Then just take out some important information that the other side of the story has . That way more people will believe you . News people a politicians do it all the time. Most news give out their opinion with facts to us to make us help them go against the other side .
Some people like politicians have to argue . They have counter claims . Then you have to have something to prove their counter claim wrong . When you are trying to prove their counter claim wrong you must use facts , if you use an opinion they will argue back . An opinion is easy to prove you or someone wrong , because maybe one person beilieves this and the other persin believes one thing . They can argue over and over . If you use a fact thats already proven then they can't really arugue unless you just made something up .
Bias is real . News people use it everyday . If you wanna make someone believe one thing than use bias . It helps people believe you . Politicians use bias too . You should use bias more often if you want people to believe you and not the other person then use bias .
