Throwing rocks at the marigolds
Twenty-two years, Maybelle, twenty-two years, and I got nothing for you, nothing, nothing
Lizbeth and other kids from her neighborhood went to Miss Lottie's house and threw rocks at her marigolds. The marigolds didn't make sense at Miss Lotties ugly house so they wanted to destroy them. This was on of her last acts of childhood.
Lizbeth hears her parents arguing over their money situation and how the dad hasn't made much money in the past few years. This makes her feel all kinds of crazy emotions on top of her current confusing emotions. She freaks out and wants to find something to take her anger out on.
Lizbeth runs to Miss Lottie's house and and decides to take her anger out on the marigolds. She tears them up in one last defying act of childhood. Miss Lottie comes out of the house and sees Lizbeth. Lizbeth has to take responsibility and discovers what it truly means to become an adult.
