The clan had given their last farewells to Ezeudu, when his son burst out in agony. "Okonkwo's gun had exploded and a piece of iron had pierced the boys heart.
"The only course open to to Okonkwo was to flee from the clan" and live in exile for 7 year in his motherland. "And before the cock crowed Okonkwo and his family were fleeing to his motherland".
Okonkwo was well received by his mothers kinsmen in Mbanta, specifically her brother, Uchendu. They help him build a compound then Okoknkwo starts farming but with less enthusiasm.
Much appreciated Uchendu.
The next day Uchendu talks to Okonkwo and tells him to embrace his motherland, as it is all he has right now.
Embrace your motherland Okonkwo.
2 years later... Obierka has come to see Okonkwo during his exile and brings two heavy bags of cowries from Okonkwo's yams. Obierka tells Okonkwo that the village of Abame has been destroyed by white men, killing all who were in the market square.
