  • No, because people are too busy celebrating, eating, and enjoying fruit.
  • Cool! How else do they celebrate the holiday?
  • Well, a custom Jewish people have is to plant trees. They also eat fruit of the Holy Land such as dates figs, pomegranates, olives, and grapes.
  • They play fruit trivia, and the children often play board games.
  • Sounds fun! What games do they play?
  • Lots of fruit-themed activities!
  • Yep! They also eat cooked wheat berries and barley, topped with figs, dates, raisins or grapes, and pomegranate seeds.
  • It can be served with a dressing of olive oil, balsamic vinegar or pomegranate juice.
  • Yum. Do they sing any songs?
  • They sing nature-themed songs, but no particular religious songs.
  • It's sort of like a Jewish Earth-Day then?
  • Yeah. It's also considered the birthday of all trees and one of the 4 Jewish New Years.
  • Cool! What else?
  • Well, Jews cannot cut down trees without permission from a rabbi.
  • Jewish parents often name their children after trees, such as Erez, (a cedar tree), and Tamar, (a date tree).
  • Wow! Tu B'Shevat sounds really awesome!
