What If The Earth Was Hit By A Asteroid

This storyboard does not have a description.
Well lets say this specific asteroid is an M-type asteroid located in the middle region of the asteroid belt.
This asteroid is metallic, moderately bright and reddish in color. Some are made from nickel-iron, either pure or mixed with small amounts of stone. The range of size 1/2 mile-600 miles in diameter.
So its like a big colored rock?
Well, depending on where the asteroid hits it can effect the surface of the earth or destroy all life on the planet.
Like from the movie Deep Impact we can build shelters that can withstand the asteroid as long as it does not come into direct contact with the shelter. But that will mean not everyone on the earth will be put into these shelters.
So if it were to happen again how could people protect themselves?
We could also relocate to Mars bur it would take years even decades for that to happen because Mars is a lot colder than Earth, the atmosphere is thinner and there is not as much gravity on Mars as there is on Earth.
Wow, thanks for explaining all that to me dad. But you still haven't explained how it made all the dinosaurs go extinct.
