Eva! Have you ever heard of "The Tale of The Sinister Swamp Monster? "

It's about how a swamp monster lured his victims into the swamp. He had 4(2v+3)=-3(v-1)+31 victims. I don't know how to solve this equation to find out how many victims he lured. Can you help me?
Of course, but to solve this equation we have to use the steps of solving Multi-step equations. to find the value of v, the number of victims the swamp monster lured.
The first step is to distribute. In this case you have to distribute the 4 to the 2v and to the 3. You also have to distribute the -3 to the a and the -1. 4 times 2v is 8v and 4 times 3 is 12. -3 times v is -3v and -3 times -1 is 3. The equation becomes 8v+12=-3v+3+31
Next we have to combine like terms. There are no like terms on the left side so lets move to the right side. The like terms are 3 and 31. 3+31 is 34. The equation becomes 8v+12=-3v+34. After that you have to move the variables to the other side of the equations by using the inverse operations. You have to subtract 3v from -3v and 8v. -3v+3v cancels out so you're left with 8v+3v=11v.

After those steps, we have to add or subtract the constant to both sides of the equation. In this case, we subtract 12 from 34 and subtract 12 from 12. 12-12 is 0 and 34-12 is 22. Then, you have to divide or multiply the coefficient by the numbers on both sides. 11a divided by 11 leaves a. 22 divided by 11 is 2. So in conclusion, v=2.
So the swamp monster lured 2 victims!
