John and lugenia burns hope was important educator and leader of African Americans in early 1900's. She was his wife.

John Became president of Atlanta Baptist College (later became Morehouse). At meeting that founded NAACP. He was president of National Association of teachers of Colored Schools.
Alonzo Herndon born a slave. After the civil war, he became a barber and opened several more barber shops.
Alonzo herndon is founder of one of the nations largest African American owned insurance companies.
In 1905 he bought an insurance company that became the Atlanta Mutual Insurance Company and later Atlanta Life Insurance Company.
